Students planning research involving live vertebrate animals must, before acquiring them for experimentation or, in the case of pets or livestock, before starting experiments:

  1. Become familiar with the laws and regulations relating to experiments with live vertebrate animals. These include the rules and regulations outlined by the OCSEF on the certification, as well as those discussed in detail on the Intel ISEF website. Please contact the OCSEF SRC by email if you have any questions.
  2. Download a Certification of Humane Treatment of Live Vertebrate Animals from below, complete the Research Plan section, obtain the required signatures, and submit it to the OCSEF SRC for approval. The biomedical scientist must be aware of the details of the research plan before completing the Certification by Biomedical Scientist.
  3. Obtain SRC approval prior to beginning your experimental work by scaning your signed certification form to convert it into a pdf and emailing the pdf to the SRC for review. Once your project has been approved, you will receive an email that you must print out and include in your project notebook.

If you cannot send a pdf, then include the information in an email and identify the individuals who have signed your certifications. After review and approval, you will receive an email from the SRC.
